Finding a passion you never knew exsisted | [b]eauty | Bend Oregon Portrait Photographer

When Megan walked into my studio she had a kind face.  She looked a little timid, and possibly unsure of what was going to happen next.  I knew she had just completed in a fitness competition the day before and was wanting to document her progress along side her husband.  We chatted a bit before the session began, to try to get to know her a bit more….this is when I started to hear her amazing journey over the past 6 months.  She might describe herself as a “mom” or a “wife” but to me Megan is Fierce!  She had a goal, something most of us women want to do; Loose weight, look better, feel better.  I am in awe….Being a person myself who has always struggled with body image issues ( like a lot of women do) Megans story has inspired me, to at least start thinking about doing something different.  Maybe there is a runner inside me, or an avid gym go-er, and maybe not.  Maybe I just change my eating habits and go from there.  Maybe you will see what Megan was able to accomplish and be inspired yourself to make a life change.   Thank you for the being brave enough to let me photograph you, to put yourself out there, let the world see where you were and where you are now.  Tonight, I might even go for a run….

Before & After | Beauty | Bend Oregon Portrait Photographer

Friday, March 9th, 2012

I have just started editing this session, but with a few new tips from the incredibly talented Sue Bryce, I was able to simplify my workflow and see some major results.  Now, this beautiful women here was great to begin with, but I wanted to show all of you out there a before and after to see what a drastic change a few tweaks can make.  The point is to not change completely what you have to start with, but enhance what is already there.  My goal, is to make you feel even more beautiful after seeing your photos, and realizing what the rest of the world already sees.

Giving Back

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Awhile back I had the opportunity to do a [b]eauty session with my friend Ann-Marie. You can see the details of that session here.  It was inspiring, and led me to send an email to the St. Charles Cancer Center.  Over the last few weeks we have been working out the details and are now ready to offer up a way for you to give back!

For all current cancer fighters, a [b]eauty session will be complimentary.  For all other paid sessions, a donation will be made of $50 per session, to the St. Charles Cancer Center, in Bend Oregon.   My hope is to inspire all of you, to help in this fight against Cancer.  It’s a small act, but one that can make a difference in many ways.

A complimentary session will include a makeover, done at Oasis Day Spa, with the lovely Annie Simmons.  You will then have a 1 hour session at the Studio.  Your session will  include (1) 8×10 print.  Any other photos will be at an additional cost.

A paid session will include a makeover, and a 1 hour session ALL for $160.  All prints are an additional charge.  We will get back together after your session is complete for a full viewing at the studio, and you will also have access to an online viewing gallery.   $50 of your session fee will be donated to the St. Charles Cancer Center.

If you have any other questions, feel free to call or email me.  I hope to see you all in the Studio REAL SOON!

It’s only hair….

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Everyone has always told me I have great hair….it’s thick, holds a curl and is always super easy to live with.  I like my hair…most of the time.  It’s one of the things that defines my style.  I think I have a weird shaped head (or at least I imagine I do under this thick mane)  I get super upset when I get a bad hair cut….I don’t want to live without my hair.

I look at these brave women who have survived chemo, traded in their hair for a beautiful scarf, and still manage to get up everyday and live…I wander if I would be one of those brave women if I had too.  They’re eyes now show that they have a little more of life figured out then the rest of us, and they possess something that everyone unlike them does not.

Most women wouldn’t choose to loose their hair…but let me tell you a story of one women who did…..

My friend Anne-Marie.  She’s a beautiful, energetic mom, of two beautiful girls.  She’s a riot to be around, and has a huge, caring heart.  A few weeks ago, Anne-Marie had a full head of dark hair.

In hopes of raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness during the “Pink Heals Tour”, Anne-Marie cut her hair.  In the middle of a crowed parking lot, she let someone at her with a pair of clippers.  “It’s just hair…it grows back” this is what she tells me when I ask her why?  Here’s the video, courtesy of Matt Hand. https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150199611660432&comments, if you want to watch the process.

I watched this video imagining myself in her shoes…I’m not sure if I could do it.  I asked Anne-Marie down to the studio, so I could capture her “new do” in style.  She was radiant.  I look at her with a new appreciation.   She has courage.  Her courage lends me to think more of the women who didn’t have a choice.  The ones that were thrown into a situation without their consent.  They are fighters.  Their bald round heads are beautiful.  They’re scars are war wounds, that should be celebrated.  They ARE survivors.

Unfortunately not all can show the scars.  We have all lost people to this awful disease.  Recently my girls lost a grandma.  We loved her….alot.  She didn’t go quietly, she fought, until the very end.  But we lost her.  Small acts (like cutting your hair in support) will change this fate one day, we can only hope.  Awareness IS key.

I talked with Anne-Maire a bit during our session together about why she chose this way to show her support.  Here is a short video in her own words.

Though my support will be be different that that of Anne-Marie.  I cant’ leave this experience and do nothing.  I am offering to all the beautiful women out there, fighting this awful battle. currently in Chemotherapy, a [b]eaty session.  Come down to the studio, just like Anne-Marie.  All sessions for current fighters will be complimentary to you, along with (1) 8×10 print.  If you are a women who is not fighting this battle, there is a way for you to show your support as well.   $50 of your session fees will be donated to our local Breast Cancer Awareness Project.
